Kinja'd!!!

Had to make a last minute work trip to Houston, which is fortunate as my parents live here. So I spent some time driving my Dad’s Q5. I realize that I'm coming from a very slow car, but this thing is much quicker than it has any right to be.

Standing ¼-mile: 15.3 @ 90 mph
Top speed (governor limited): 97 mph

Yes, your dad’s Q5 is faster but does a UPS truck need to be that fast? Everything is fast nowadays. My Transit doesn’t handle quite as well but is almost a second faster to 60 than a Porsche 924.

My dad has a 2012 535i. It’s also incredibly fast compared to my ‘99 9-3. For a luxury sedan that’s not a performance car and is supposed to be comfortable , it’s pretty fast, too.

They used to be slow. Really slow. P eople that bought them had fragile egos and saw my little hot hatch as their arch nemesis.

It’s no surprise that a cargo vehicle is fast when unladen. That are made to haul around a lot of weight and need the power and torque to do it. Ever have a tractor sans trailer outrun you to the on-ramp? I have. It was humbling.

I used to love driving around our empty Isuzu NPR.great pick up off the line.

We had a Q7 with the 3.6, which is just a V6 and it was plenty quick.  And it handled very much like a taller sports car.  That’s what got me hooked on the brand.

Good point. But my Transit mostly empty still weighed in at 6500lbs. 6.8 secs for 6500lbs is amazing to me. It sounds like you wouldn’t want to be next to a Transit at an on-ramp either.

(that’s not me )

Simple: It has to make the A4 obsolete, and it’s doing a really good job at that.

Sadly.

Modern cars in general are crazy fast. A mid level Civic, with the 1.5 turbo, has 180hp and does 0-60in 6.8. In comparison a 98 Integra GSR The Fast Car Honda sold in the US at the time did 7.0

This so much! I feel like I can’t even have fun in my GTI because it’s too damn fast and I will get into trouble again.

7 seconds is about  where all of my “fun” cars have lived. My GSR my VR-4 Galant and my 328i. I think it hits a happy medium of quick enough, but not so fast you can’t use WOT on the street.

It makes my FRS that much more inexcusable to be so slow in a straight line

But you can got wide open throttle any dang time you want. And sometimes that’s more fun than going faster

Because we live in a glorious time horsepower and turbocharged-driven tourqe curves that are as wide as they are flat.
